Microarray and Gene Expression Core
Microarray and Gene Expression Overview For more information contact Lubov Nathanson, Ph.D. at lnathanson@med.miami.edu Microarray technology can be used for multiple applications, which include (but not limited to) gene expression, copy number variants, DNA methylation, promoter analyses etc. Gene expression involves measuring the amount of mRNA levels under different experimental conditions. Copy number variants are assessed by measuring genomic DNA levels. Equipment Resources
For detection of copy number variants we have Agilent and Nimblegen platforms. These include a scanner, hybridization stations and ovens.
For gene expression studies we have two primary platforms: the Affymetrix Gene Chip 3000 and a complete Agilent microarray system. The Affymetrix GeneChip system utilizes a single color detection scheme, where only one sample is hybridized per Chip. The Agilent system utilizes a two color scheme in which the same array is hybridized by two samples each labeled with different fluorescent dye. The ratio of the fluorescent signal indicates ratio of transcripts in two different biological samples on the same microarray. In addition, we are capable of supporting, through existing platforms, both Nimblegen and Illumina gene expression studies. |
