Research Programs at the Hussman Institute

The Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) hosts a series of research programs intended to foster interdisciplinary initiatives in biomedical research. These programs are designed to attract investigators with overlapping research interests from all disciplines at the University of Miami. The overall program goals are to

  • increase awareness of research on a designated disorder
  • cultivate effective research collaborations within the University of Miami
  • enhance research infrastructure by combining expertise and technologies
  • obtain new and extend existing funding for program projects

Each program is facilitated by a HIHG faculty member with expertise in the designated program. The program facilitator will assess the overall needs of the program and define specific research areas within the program. Research undertaken by each program is expected to take advantage of the facilities and technical resources available in the Centers and Cores of the HIHG. The HIHG Executive Committee has responsibility for oversight of new and existing programs, which will be reviewed on an annual basis. Programs can be created or terminated at the discretion of the HIHG Executive Committee.

Our ongoing programs include, but are not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Neurodegeneration, Birth Defects, Cardiovascular Disorders, Opthalmologic Disorders and Psychiatric Disorders.
