The Faculty Member in the Department of Human Genetics will be expected to fulfill the following role and functions:

The Chief of the Medical Genetics Division and Clinical Program Director will oversee the clinical operations of an ongoing Medical Genetics research group, manage clinical services, and promote clinical research.

He or she will be responsible for maintaining a high level of excellence in education, team-based research, and clinical programs, with the long-term goal of securing the growth potential of the Department of Human Genetics as it expands to provide academic and clinical services for a variety of projects. The candidate will work closely with members of the Hussman Institute for Human Genomics in pursuit of these objectives.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of successful scholarly work, particularly in translational research, and will possess an MD or MD/PhD, a Florida medical license, and board certification in Clinical Genetics, Pediatrics, or Medicine/Pediatrics.

Associate Professor (Director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory), tenure track.

The Faculty Member in the Department of Human Genetics will be expected to fulfill the following role and functions:

Responsibilities will include the interpretation, reporting, and consultation of a spectrum of DNA diagnostic assays, the establishment of new testing protocols, and the performance of routine administrative duties in directing the general operations of the laboratory.

The Director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory will be required to collaborate with other laboratory directors in a collegial and team-oriented atmosphere, and to contribute meaningfully to the teaching and research goals of the department.

The successful candidate will possess a PhD or MD degree, and will be certified by ABMG as a Clinical Molecular Geneticist.

Director (Center for Models of Human Disease)

The Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) is seeking a Director for HIHG Center for Models of Human Disease.  The mission of the HIHG is to identify and explain genetic influences on human health and to help translate genetic and genomic research into medical practice.  To conduct cutting edge genomics research and achieve this mission, the HIHG consists of five integrated centers that house requisite expertise and technology.

The Center for Models of Human Disease, one of the five integrated centers of the HIHG, will study the biological effects of genes involved in disease susceptibility through the construction of model organisms.  These models can be used to identify and study both normal gene and disease mechanisms, and generate genetic and biology-based models that can be used for therapeutic screening by the research community. 
    
Applicants should have an M.D., Ph.D, and or M.D./Ph.D. in the life sciences with extensive experience animal models research and international standing in this field is required. At least five years of significant relevant experience managing a research infrastructure is expected along with supervisory experience. Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of an organization is essential.

Specifically, the ideal candidate will:

  • oversee the development and management of a world-class animal models facility
  • facilitate interactions and collaborations with the University of Miami and outside research faculty with diverse areas of expertise
  • lead a program of innovative and funded research with demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding such as NIH P50, P01 and/or R01 grant funding as a PI

  • represent the MIHG's mission and animal models center research and resources during presentations to potential partners and collaborators.

  • have an extensive publication record in collaborative research

  • conduct research leading to publication in high impact scientific journals

  • have demonstrated administrative experience in running complex projects, centers, or units and leading and managing faculty
